Collective Behavior & Social Movements

Riots, Crowds, Collective Behavior, Hysteria, Rumors, Mobs, Panic, Social Movements

Hysteria: Hysteria would be first because it is what initially attracts large groups of people. It produces exaggerated and uncontrollable emotions and excitement.

Collective Behavior: This would be next because this is how crowds begin. When large groups of people form, the individuals in that group behave differently than they normally would.

Rumors: Over time, rumors inevitably began to fly around. This would create paranoia among all the groups, causing them to become rowdy.

Crowds: Due to the hysteria, society would began to behave collectively and form crowds.

Mobs: Following the rumors, crowds would begin to form mobs instead. This occurs because the entire crowd feels frustrated and wants to express themselves through violence.

Panic: Due to the violence, many individuals may feel fear or anxiety. This is especially true if the police become involved.

Social Movements: Once the violence dies down, people would start behaving more wisely. As a result of everything that occurred, a social movement would form.

Riots: Riots would ensue as a direct result of the panic. The people would resort to violence because of how scared and angry they are.
