What is deviance?
Deviance is the state of departing from usual or accepted standards, especially in social or sexual behavior.
What is crime?
An action that constitutes an offense that may be prosecuted by the state and is punishable by law.
How are they similar?
Crime and deviance are similar in the fact that the individual displays immoral behavior. A cop or law official could stop you for either acts. Some acts of deviance can be considered criminal and are punishable.
How are they different?
Deviance is when an individual breaks social norms while crime is the breaking of laws. Deviance isn't considered as serious as crime is. The agents of control for these acts are different. Societal norms control deviance while law enforcement and the justice system control crime.
