Futility, Perversity, and Jeopardy
Futility: Terrorism, I feel, is a perfect example of futility. It arises when groups use violence and intimidation as a means to advance their political ideologies and goals. There are all kinds of organizations alone here in America. We have interest groups, clubs, unions, and other organized political groups. The difference with America is the strict law enforcement used to prevent these groups from employing violence (peaceful protest is the closest you get). But America is only one country, there are over 100 countries with the same groups that can do what they want. This is why groups like ISIS have formed and will continue to form. It is impossible for all people in this world to see eye-to-eye. Groups like ISIS feel that terrorism is the best means to advance their policies, not only in their country, but others as well. With a huge world population and an infinite amount of problems, I believe terrorism is something that will never go away.

Perversity: One example of perversity that we face today in 2016 is the increasing popularity of Donald Trump. He is one of the GOP candidates seeking the presidential nomination. Critics say that he is a bigot, racist, and promotes extreme policies. One policy, for example, was the complete banning of Muslims from entering America. Despite this, he has had great success in the Republican primaries which has led many people to try and put a stop to his success. News stations like ABC, CNN, and CBS have made many attempts to give Trump a bad image. However, doing this is only fanning the flames and making the problem worse. There is a saying that "there is no such thing as bad publicity", and it is true. Trump is constantly the center of attention on the news, giving him free publicity. Come election day, those who are not informed may vote for the candidate whose name they recognize, which would be Trump. Many voters may not even know who John Kasich, perhaps the most qualified GOP candidate, is and what his positions on issues are.

Jeopardy: One issue we face today that demonstrates jeopardy is immigration policy. It is something that the government should regulate, but I believe it is taking away attention from bigger issues. The government is focused on looking outward when they should be looking inward at their own people. Over the past two years, the issue of race relations has continued to grow. This has led to protests all over the country like in Mississippi and in Ferguson, Missouri. The federal government has been more worried about other countries and its citizens when they should be worrying about their own. Clearly, they are doing what they can to improve relations among its citizens. However, I believe they could do more which is why immigration policy is an example of jeopardy.
